Lemon Smoothie

This bright, tart, and refreshing creamy lemon smoothie with an Omega-3 boost is a delicious breakfast or snack. This post was sponsored by Nature’s Way NutraVege™ and all opinions are my own.

We are big smoothie-lovers over here and I’m so excited to share a new smoothie recipe with you. This creamy lemon smoothie recipe tastes like lemon ice cream, but is made in the blender with just a handful of simple, nourishing ingredients.

As with most of my smoothie recipes, like my BlueberryPeachStrawberryMango, Banana, Avocado and Rasberry smoothies, this lemon smoothie is filled with nutritious superfoods.

PLANT BASED OMEGA-3 BOOST

Nature’s Way sent me a package of their NutraVege plant-based Omega-3 supplements, and I’m now adding them to my smoothies daily. Nature’s Way is a brand I’ve used and trusted for years (I always use their Umcka and Sambucus supplements to kick colds) so I was excited to try this product.

Many of my friends and I have reduced or eliminated animal products for health, environmental, or ethical reasons. It’s important, however, to get enough Omega-3s DHA and EPA. Omega-3s are found in seeds and nuts like flax, chia, hemp, and walnuts, but they aren’t as easy for our bodies to use. Most commonly, fish or squid oil provide the recommended EPA/DHA, but NutraVege has developed a new process.

I’ve tried algae-derived omega-3 supplements in the past, but I hate swallowing pills, so I was never consistent. I love that I can add liquid NutraVege to my smoothies and other beverages without it compromising taste. It’s just so easy to incorporate into my busy everyday routine.

LEMON BENEFITS

Lemons have many great health benefits and contain vitamin C. I love drinking lemon water, either warm or cold, and have been adding NutraVege to that too. When I’m craving a sweet treat though, this sweet lemon smoothie is perfect.

HOW TO MAKE A LEMON SMOOTHIE

This lemon smoothie takes just a couple of minutes to whip up in the blender. Fresh lemon juice, yogurt, and ice are the main components. I like to use dairy-free yogurt and either plain or vanilla work beautifully. As lemon is very tart, you will probably want to sweeten it up a bit. I use a few drops of liquid stevia, but agave syrup would also work well.

INGREDIENTS

  •  juice of 1 lemon
  •  1 cup plain or vanilla yogurt (non-dairy if desired)
  •  1 1/2 cups ice
  •  1 teaspoon Lemon NutraVege™ Omega-3
  •  organic stevia to taste (or agave syrup)
  •  1 cup frozen strawberries (optional for pink layer)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Add the lemon juice, yogurt, ice, and NutraVege to a blender. Blend until smooth.
  2. Sweeten to taste with stevia or agave syrup.
  3. Pour half the lemon smoothie into a glass. Add the strawberries to the blender with the remaining lemon smoothie. Blend until smooth, then add on top of the lemon layer. Enjoy immediately!
